Being an Eagle
| We're the most successful volleyball club in the country, bla, bla, bla... I guess there're only so many times you can read that without tuning out so let's find something else to say about being an "Eagle". At last count, we had over 100 players and a few non-playing buddies and administrators. As you know, volleyball players tend to be fit and a little above average in height so it's like being part of a big gang. Don't be scared, though; there'll be no hoodies worn while intimidating city gents on the tube. We're a nice gang, more West Side Story (apparently Dodge still has some moves) than Warriors! Apart form Antarctica (unfortunately, we don't accept penguins), we've got players from every continent so we're a really cosmopolitan mix; just what you'd expect in London. |

We have eight teams training across Southwest London throughout the week so keeping the club spirit isn't automatic. Teams training on a particular night generally pop into the nearest inn for a quick tonic and a group of us always watch our national league home games and join the players for a celebratory sherry afterwards (we don't like to drink too much). Every month we also have a Club Night which is a great time to catch up with players in the other teams over a sandwich and... maybe two sherries. Add to this the inevitable birthdays, leaving drinks and tournaments (more of these later) and you'd be forgiven for thinking there's more "après" than volleyball. |

Development is also really fundamental to our club. Volleyball is our reason for existence so our development work is centred around the sport. That said, in addition to the excellent opportunities available for those that play, there are almost as many opportunities for people to develop administrative, organisational, creative, motivational, artistic and leadership abilities. |

To keep a club of our size running well needs quite an investment, some of which is given by players and some of which comes from family, friends and people from our local community. Whether you want to play in the GB squad or love taking great pictures, there's a welcoming and organised environment for you to do just that. Joining Malory Eagles...
